Jim Galik “Universalist Unitarianism” As the two denominations approached merger in 1961 some predicted that the Universalist Church of America would be “swallowed up” by the much larger American Unitarian Association, and to a significant extent, that’s what happened. On the few occasions that our denomination is mentioned in popular media, we are usually referred to simply as “Unitarians.” In fact, I’ve heard some UU’s, including some ministers, refer to themselves in the same way. Today, as many of us yearn for greater spiritual nourishment, perhaps we need to reacquaint ourselves with our rich Universalist heritage to quench our thirst.
